Republicans Debated, How Did Mitt Romney Do?

How did Mitt Romney perform in yesterday's Republican debate? Depends on who you ask, no doubt. Hugh Hewitt thinks that his man Romney did, wait for it.............., really well:

 

Giuliani and Romney win, going away….On the economy and trade, taxes and optimism, Romney has the edge, but he miffed the Iran question….The talk of lawyers - probably a fumbled reference to when and if the War Powers Act applies, but you couldn’t really tell - was not his finest hour, but also not the huge deal that some want to make it out to be….

Fred Thompson is just flat.  Period.  And the perpetual frown isn’t going to win anything.

What a surprise. Hugh Hewitt is one of the best center-right bloggers out there, but Mr. Hewitt is totally biased when it comes to Romney. Rudy's campaign is suggesting that Romney committed a "Lawyer's Test" gaffe in that debate yesterday. Paul Mirengoff thinks, not so much.

Romney is backing off from his debate tax fight that he tried to pick with Giuliani.

Clarence Thomas Dines with New Media

Some of my favorite bloggers and conservative journalists got to attend a dinner hosted by Clarence Thomas and his wife. Ed Morrissey and Paul Mirengoff were there as was Bill Kristol. This event was to honor the publication of Justice Thomas' new book, My Grandfather's Son. From all accounts Clarence Thomas is an amazing individual who has overcome tremendous difficulties in his life. He is not anything like Anita Hill and many of the Democrats in Congress tried to paint him in 1991 during his SCOTUS nomination hearings. He is worthy of our utmost respect.

Hate Crime Amendment to Broaden Scope

Democrats are attaching a hate crimes amendment (the Kennedy/Smith amendment) to the Defense Authorization working its way now through Congress. As it stands now, included in the amendment is language that some pastors fear would result in their being prosecuted for preaching critically (and scripturally) against homosexuality. Sound ridiculous? Yes it does, but pastors have, in fact, been prosecuted in some foreign countries. Byron York has more.

Dan Rather, What a Fool

I remember the night that Rathergate developed in the blogosphere. I was reading Free Republic one evening and picked up a thread about a news story that 60 Minutes had just aired impugning George W. Bush's service in the National Guard. That news had the potential to derail the President's reelection campaign so I read on, and on, and on into the early morning hours.

It was amazing, in the space of only a few hours, bloggers (who it turned out were a lot smarter than lowly J school graduates) destroyed CBS and Dan Rather's story. Destroyed it with facts.

Dan Rather is back, and incredibly, on the war path again.

3 Florida Supreme Court Justices Ruled in Favor of Al Gore in 2000

Florida voters, listen up! I just learned that all of the Florida Supreme Court justices up for merit retention votes on the ballot tomorrow, ruled for Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election. Great opportunity to just say NO and vote a no for every one of these judges: Justice R. Fred Lewis, Justice Barbara Joan Pariente and Justice Peggy A. Quince.

I really hate reading the wacky, lefty Democrat web sites like the Democrat Underground, but today it's too fun. Here's the rest of the comment that I quote in the headline of this post:

On the other hand, I am sure that there are numerous other criminal enterprises that Kkkarl has participated in, so we just have to keep digging. Perhaps Fitz is doing just that--he has the license to do so.

Or am I approaching the definition of insanity, here?

Democrat Voters Demoralized-Be Still My Heart

Usually I can't stomach reading Daily Kos and its liberal rants, but today I'm kind of liking it:

F**k our democratic leaders (me: aren't these guys classy though?)

They do not hold the liberal or progressive ideals.  The only ideals they know is how to get elected or re-elected, and sadly they will fail at that adventure like every other "half-assed" stance they take.  I'm tired of our Dem's and think we need to form another (true progressive) party...should we take note from Canada, they were tired with their corrupt, inept Democrats in office, and formed the New Democratic Party...I for one, and down to try anything but stick with these losers we have in office.  Yes the Repug ideals make me sick, but I can really see why people would vote for them...they feel the same way as us, but opposite (voting for the lesser of 2 evils).  What a sham our political process has become, what a f*ckin joke.

Selling his country out for money.

I called the DC office, took three tries to get through. Told them that I'd never vote for him again for the rest of my life, and they could kiss goodbye any chance of seeing money from me or my family.

Then I called the Tampa office, (at 5:03 pm according to my clock) where they'd already put the voicemail on and hauled ass. I left my name and address and told them to remove me from any and all mailing lists, that I was sick and tired of Democrats that refused to stand up for anything, and that he'd never see a penny or a vote from me again.

Now excuse me while I change my sig...-ashamed to be MISrepresented by Bill Nelson, a Vichy DemocratI called immediately after the cloture vote.

I told him I was extremely frustrated and that I would not support him anymore.

The staff member said he is voting against confirmation but I said it's too late.  He needed to vote no on cloture.

I will now be donating to his democratic opponent in the general election.

Ahhh yes, discontented, demoralized Democrats-it is to enjoy. Thank you President George W. Bush.

Abortion: A Monumentally Destructive Social Force

From the National Review Online archives comes this editorial, published January 26, 1998, which is a grim accounting of the destruction that abortion has caused our country:

Everything abortion touches, it corrupts. It has corrupted family life. In the war between the sexes, abortion tilts the playing field toward predatory males, giving them another excuse for abandoning their offspring: She chose to carry the child; let her pay for her choice. Our law now says, in effect, that fatherhood has no meaning, and we are shocked that some men have learned that lesson too well. It has corrupted the Supreme Court, which has protected the abortion license even while tacitly admitting its lack of constitutional grounding. If the courts can invent such a right, unmoored in the text, tradition, or logic of the Constitution, then they can do almost anything; and so they have done. The law on everything from free speech to biotechnology has been distorted to accommodate abortionism. And abortion has deeply corrupted the practice of medicine, transforming healers into killers.
